Management education in India is relatively young. Following the establishment of the IITs, there arose a pressing need for similar institutions in the field of management. This journey began with the founding of four Indian Institutes of Managements. Over time, management education has evolved, with leading universities offering full-time and part-time MBA programs. However, alongside this growth, a proliferation of B-schools has emerged, with only a select few truly meeting the demands of contemporary times by shaping capable business leaders dedicated to societal progress.

Among these esteemed institutions stands M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Management (RIM), a prominent name from Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India. Renowned for its quality management education through its flagship PGDM program, RIM carries forward the rich legacy of its visionary founder, Dr. M. S. Ramaiah, and its parent organization, the Gokula Education Foundation (GEF). With a strong emphasis on education, competence, and industry engagement, RIM has consistently provided exceptional placement and internship opportunities.

In recognition of its exemplary efforts in fostering a robust student-industry interface and producing competent business leaders, we at the Education Excellence Awards are proud to honor M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Management as the Business School of the Year 2024.

  1. S. Ramaiah Institute of Management in a Nutshell

A vital constituent of Ramaiah Group of Institutions, Bengaluru, M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Management has consistently ranked among the top business schools in India, as recognized by several ranking agencies. Its flagship programs, including the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and PGDM in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Venture Development (PGDM-IEV), are approved by AICTE and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). RIM’s curriculum is meticulously designed to be industry-oriented, with significant input from both academic and industry experts. Periodic reviews by industry associates ensure the programs remain relevant to evolving business landscapes. The teaching methodology incorporates modern pedagogies, experiential learning, and practical exposure, often delivered in collaboration with industry partners.

Business School of The Year 2024 – Exemplary Student-Industry Interface

As already mentioned above M. S. Ramaiah Institute of Management has been honored as the Business School of the Year 2024 for its Exemplary Student-Industry Interface, and the reasons behind this recognition were highlighted in an insightful conversation with Dr. Manasa Nagabhushanam, Director (Academics and Research) at the institute.

Discussing the pivotal role of industry collaborations in enhancing the learning experience at RIM, Dr. Manasa emphasized the institute’s efforts in building strong partnerships. She shared that RIM has recently signed several MOUs with various industrial bodies, establishing itself as a strategic partner for research and consultancy projects. Collaborations with organizations like KPMG have been instrumental in training students on Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, significantly boosting their performance during placement processes.

Dr. Manasa also highlighted the institute’s award-winning program, “Internship in Startups”, which equips students with practical experience and gives them a competitive edge in today’s dynamic job market.

Expanding Horizons

Building on its mission to forge strong global connections, the B-school has made remarkable progress in promoting international integration, underscoring its dedication to cultivating a diverse and global learning environment. A key milestone in this endeavor is the establishment of the Ramaiah Japan Centre, which actively facilitates exposure to Japanese culture and industry. Through collaborations with Kyoto University of Advanced Studies and Kanazawa University, the institute has initiated impactful programs, including a 2×2 internship where Japanese students gain hands-on experience interning with startups incubated within the Ramaiah group.

The institute’s Department of International Relations has further expanded RIM’s global footprint. This department manages programs and partnerships that include student and faculty mobility, curriculum development, joint research projects, and cultural workshops. New academic alliances with prestigious institutions in Europe and Southeast Asia have enhanced student and faculty exchange programs, both online and offline.

In 2024, four new credit-based global programs were introduced in collaboration with renowned universities, including ESC Clermont. These initiatives include semester-abroad opportunities, international summer and winter programs, dual degrees, and a 1+1 program.

To support students further, RIM has launched a Global Mentorship Program featuring seasoned international mentors. Students benefit from foreign language courses, such as French A1 at Alliance Française, and global career support through partnerships with organizations like the Global Career Centre USA, offering international internships across 30 countries. Faculty exchange programs have also been expanded, fostering cross-cultural and knowledge-sharing experiences.

The institute remains deeply connected with its alumni, who play an integral role in curriculum development, mentorship, and career guidance. RIM’s alumni actively refer students for job openings and internships, and distinguished alumni frequently return to campus to share industry insights, participate in panel discussions, and inspire future leaders.
