As the world moves forward, technology evolves with every passing day. New ideas and innovations continue to redefine how we think, create, and learn. In this dynamic environment, educational institutions must move beyond conventional approaches and embrace modern trends that encourage students to explore, experiment, and excel. Engineering, in particular, demands fresh perspectives and the freedom to go beyond the ordinary, and to uncover concepts yet to be discovered and spark curiosity that fuels transformation.
Mangalam College of Engineering stands at the forefront of this vision. Dedicated to shaping future-ready engineers and leaders for a technology-driven world, the institution blends academic excellence with value-based learning. With an “A” Grade accreditation from NAAC, four NBA-accredited programmes, and a proud 18th position in the Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework, Mangalam College continues to prove its stature as a centre of innovation and excellence, truly deserving the recognition as the Engineering College of the Year 2025.
A Legacy Rooted in Innovation
Mangalam College of Engineering, located in Kottayam, Kerala, is part of the Mangalam Group, which was established in April 1969 by the late M. C. Varghese. The institution is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala, and operates under the aegis of the Mangalam Educational Society.
In addition to offering conventional engineering programmes, MLMCE provides specialized courses such as Fire and Safety Engineering and VLSI & Embedded Systems (ECE). Programmes like B.Tech in Computer Science and Business Systems and Industrial Engineering and Management highlight the college’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning that aligns with evolving industry trends and global technological shifts.
Learning Beyond Classrooms
MLMCE believes that true education extends beyond the boundaries of classrooms. The institution actively promotes experiential learning through approaches such as project-based learning, MOOC-based assignments, virtual labs, simulation platforms, AI-driven tools, and digital classrooms. Select courses also integrate immersive VR and AR modules to enhance conceptual understanding. Practical exposure is further strengthened through collaborations with MSMEs, IDEA Innovation Labs, and regular industrial visits.
Student Achievements that Inspire Progress
Students of MLMCE have actively participated in various competitions both on and off campus, earning notable recognition and financial assistance amounting to Rs. 2.17 lakh from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University over two consecutive academic years. Notably, MLMCE students secured the First Prize in the SPARK Venture competition, receiving a cash award of ₹1 lakh. Additionally, four students were honoured with the Chief Minister’s Excellence Award, each receiving ₹1 lakh for their exceptional innovation and performance. Furthermore, six student ideas were shortlisted in the Yukthi Innovation Challenge organized by MIC and AICTE.
Where Ideas Take Flight
The college takes immense pride in its strong incubation ecosystem that fosters young entrepreneurs and cultivates innovative ideas. MLMCE hosts an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC) along with several on-campus incubation facilities, providing students direct access to industry mentors, startup founders, and in-house experts who guide entrepreneurial ventures. In 2025, MLMCE marked a milestone by securing AICTE approval for a cutting-edge Idea Lab valued at ₹90 lakhs.
Throughout the academic year, the institution organizes hackathons, ideathons, pre-incubation workshops, and prototype development programmes that inspire hands-on innovation. It also offers support for patent filing and innovation documentation, encouraging students to transform ideas into impactful solutions.
Several student-led startups have received funding through IEDC seed grants, the Young Innovators Programme (YIP), and the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) initiatives, affirming the credibility and potential of their business models.
Bridging Academia and Industry
Prevalent in the industry, the college of engineering has maintained consistent strong ties with tech giants like Infosys, Oracle, L&T Infotech, HCL, HP, IBM, and so on, resulting in quality internship opportunities, regular industrial visits, and skill-development programmes blended well with the curriculum. Through the Industry-Institute Interaction Cell (IIIC), students are trained in soft skills, aptitude, coding, communication, and interview preparation second year onward.
These ties and connections also help with multiple guest lecture visits by industry experts and certification courses from platforms such as NPTEL, Coursera, AWS, Google and Autodesk.
Placement records too shine – year after year, with an overall placement percentage of 70% across engineering branches including UG and PG.
On a Mission Toward Global Excellence
Mangalam College of Engineering (MLMCE) has solidified its industry leadership, clinching two prestigious Minister’s Excellence Awards in 2025, the first from Kerala’s State Level Quality Assurance Cell (SLQAC), and the second from DTE Kerala at KTEES.
Going forward the institute aims to increase their collaborations with the emerging industry smarts. Fund many more research projects and patents, establish research centers over new technological trends, establish many more interdisciplinary academic programs. MLMCE also aims to expand their reach internationally via global internships and faculty exchanges and give their students nothing but the best holistically.
