As the commencement of school admissions for the 2024 academic session approaches, the Ministry of Education has introduced a requirement regarding the age limit for admission into Class 1. On Sunday, the MoE issued a directive to all states and Union Territories, emphasizing that students enrolling in Grade 1 must be at least 6 years old. This directive reaffirms the stipulations outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) of 2020, urging the respective authorities to address this matter.
The announcement of the minimum age requirement for Class 1 admissions aligns with the guidelines set forth in the NEP. The Department of School Education and Literacy, operating under the Ministry of Education, has previously issued similar directives to ensure compliance with this regulation. Similar letters were circulated during the previous year’s admission process as well.
According to reports, more than 20 states and Union Territories have already initiated the admission process in accordance with this criterion.
