New Immigration Laws in Canada Raise Concerns for Indian Students

Indian students in Canada are accusing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of inciting anti-immigration sentiments ahead of the country’s 45th federal election next year. In addition to his remarks, modifications are being made to study or post-study work visas, which are seen to have the potential to harm the aspirations of many Indian students.

The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reports that between 2015 and 2024, almost 1.3 million Indian students were granted study visas. Up till August of 2024, 1,37,445 Indian students (36.7%) out of 3,74,060 overseas students were granted study visas.

The Liberal Party of Canada candidate recently said on X that the number of temporary foreign workers in Canada will now be decreased, despite claims that Trudeau’s party workers were calling for his resignation.
