Leaving the high corridors of the country’s premier institutions, Prof. Ravindra Kumar Sinha has now become the captain of Gautam Buddha University (GBU) in Greater Noida. The highlights of his working life of enhanced recognition and outstanding contributions to scientific and technological advancements collectively reflect his impact in the sphere of higher education institutions. Thus, on January 28, 2022, gaining decades of experience in the field, acknowledging a vast research background, and keeping a vision to take GBU to the new advanced level, Prof. Sinha joined the university as Vice Chancellor.
Previously, Prof. Sinha was the Director of CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO), Chandigarh from 2015 to 2020. During his tenure at the CSIO he initiated innovation in the fields of research and development; he has successfully implemented numerous projects that have been brought to the commercial market, to be specific 39 in number, all of which are testimonies of his unyielding efforts in an attempt to close the gap between research and development and the marketplace. His leadership extended to additional responsibilities as Director (Additional Charge) at CSIR-CEERI Pilani and CSIR-IMTECH Chandigarh, where he continued to mentor and inspire a generation of scientists and researchers.

The contribution of Prof. Sinha to the academic world is commendable, and his experience counts to many well-reputed organizations including Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) that is now known as Delhi Technological University or DTU, where Prof. Sinha has worked in many executive positions like Dean of Academic-UG, Dean of Industrial Research & Development, Head of Applied Physics, etc. His recognition would continue to grow throughout his career as the Chief Coordinator of TIFAC-Centre of Excellence in Fiber Optics & Optical Communication at the DTU.
Prof. Sinha has to his credit more than 393 research papers, successful supervision of 21 Ph. D. thesis and 22 sponsored R&D projects, many international fellowships and awards in the areas of Fiber Optics, Photonics, and Nano-Photonics; his contribution is immense. His research has not only nurtured sciences but also placed him in the league of best scientists in optoelectronics and photonics next to only 2% at the global level as defined by Stanford University publication. Over time, through the grants from International organizations such as the Fulbright program grant, a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom and a short-term fellowships from the Japan society for the promotion of science and Technology, JSPS, and Indo-Swiss Bilateral Fellowship, Prof. Sinha has demonstrated the spirit of innovation and research.
