With the Kanwar Yatra currently underway, authorities have ordered the closure of schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across western Uttar Pradesh districts, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Baghpat, and Muzaffarnagar, until August 12, citing the heavy footfall of Kanwar pilgrims in the region.
The move aims to safeguard student safety and ease traffic snarls, as lakhs of Kanwariyas pass through these areas during the annual pilgrimage. District officials cited the scale of pilgrim movement as the reason for shutting down all educational institutions for the duration.
In Ghaziabad specifically, the district administration has ordered that all institutions, from nursery schools through Class 12, along with colleges, universities, and technical institutes, stay closed from August 4 through August 12.
