SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy traces its origins to 1959, when it began as a practical training hall for SDM Ayurveda College students studying Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana. The operation eventually evolved from supplying medicines to college hospitals into a full-fledged classical pharmacy. Formally established in 1997 at Udupi with 10,000 sq ft, it expanded to a state-of-the-art 45,000 sq ft facility by 2007. The pharmacy’s foundational ethos remains grounded in authenticity, where approximately 90% of its portfolio comprises classical Ayurvedic formulations sourced directly from ancient texts, validated through rigorous clinical observation, and refined by faculty supervision and practitioner feedback.
Today, SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy operates across 25 Indian states and supplies to Europe (Croatia and Ukraine). The operation maintains unwavering ethical standards, rejecting deepdiscount schemes in favor of sustainable, transparent pricing. Distribution flows through non-exclusive channels via Ayurvedic medical shops, hospitals, and practitioners, many identified through an alumni network spanning the country. The pharmacy holds GMP (2005), ISO 9001:2008 (2010), and ISO 22000:2018 (2017) certifications, employing over 100 dedicated staff.
SDM Ayurveda Pharmacy’s portfolio encompasses 346 classical products and 35 proprietary products across all traditional dosage forms, from Kashayas to Asavarishtas, Vatis, Choornas, Tailas, and even Ghrita, in turn addressing comprehensive Ayurvedic therapeutics. Flagship products include Sandhilin (joint pain liniment), Mahanarayana taila (massage oil), Mehabaya kashaya (diabetes support), and a robust range of 15 Gugulu preparations for pain and constitutional disorders. Raw materials are sourced from graded vendors across Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kerala, and locally from Ujire and Koppal, with stringent quality protocols, monthly planning cycles, and pre-production testing ensuring pharmaceutical excellence and textual authenticity in every formulation
