The Mastermind Behind “Annadana”
One of his most significant contributions is his role as the Chief Operations Officer of the Annapoorna Kitchen at Dharmasthala. Managing one of the world’s largest family-run kitchens, he oversees a massive operation that serves free meals to 25,000 to 50,000 pilgrims daily.
Under his supervision, the dining hall operates with military precision, completing the seating, serving, and cleanup for batches of 4,000 people in just 13 minutes. He has integrated modern, eco-friendly practices into the kitchen, including massive waste-to-compost systems and high-tech steam cooking, ensuring that tradition and modern sustainability go hand-in-hand.
Driving Educational Accessibility
In his capacity as Secretary, Sri Harshendra Kumar is a staunch advocate for rural empowerment through education. He actively oversees the management of numerous Kannada medium schools in remote areas, ensuring that the “Vidyadana” (gift of education) legacy reaches the most underprivileged sections of society.
Recognizing that access is as important as quality, he has pioneered initiatives like providing dedicated school bus facilities for rural students attending SDM schools in regions like Puduvettu and Perinje.
