Students under UGC can now pick any discipline

According to a draft of new UGC regulations intended to bring about significant reforms in India’s higher education system, students from any stream in Class 12 can now pursue any UG program they choose, and UG students can enroll in any PG discipline as long as they pass a national or university-level entrance exam, like the CUET.

Additionally, UGC plans to provide interdisciplinary learning possibilities by allowing students to pursue two programs at the same time, flexible minimum credit requirements for degrees, and biennial admissions.

Central, state, private, and deemed institutions would all be included by the proposed UGC regulations that were made public for comments and recommendations on Thursday. By permitting students to select programs outside of their previous streams, the laws seek to eliminate “traditional disciplinary rigidities.”
