The ongoing land dispute at Kancha Gachibowli escalated on Thursday as students from the University of Hyderabad (UoH) launched a hunger strike in protest.
At least ten students began the strike in a relay format, with others expected to join in succession. The demonstrators are demanding the immediate removal of all JCBs from the disputed site and a complete halt to tree felling in the area.
Tensions further flared as police forces intensified their presence on campus. Officers reportedly resorted to lathi charges and forcibly removed students in an attempt to break up the protest.
Security has been tightened at the university’s main gate, with police maintaining a round-the-clock watch and limiting access to outsiders.
