Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google LLC to strengthen skill development, industry-readiness, and placement opportunities for engineering students.
The agreement was formalized at a ceremony in Bengaluru, where VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof S Vidyashankar and Sanjay Jain, Head of Google for Education India, put pen to paper on the partnership.
Under the MoU, VTU said the collaboration will focus on artificial intelligence training, upskilling faculty members, and building expertise in cloud computing, data science, and cybersecurity, all aimed at making students job-ready and industry-aligned.
Speaking at the event, Prof Vidyashankar noted that VTU oversees 220 engineering colleges educating around 3 lakh students, and stressed that graduates need to step into the workforce fully prepared and matched to industry expectations. He said this is why the university has been forging partnerships with Google and other companies to prioritize skills-based learning, calling it a move that will directly benefit engineering students.
Sanjay Jain expressed enthusiasm about partnering with VTU, describing it as Asia’s largest engineering university. He said Google’s goal extends beyond just teaching technical skills, it’s about equipping students for real employment opportunities, with faculty training also part of the plan. He pointed out that while AI is now used even by young children, few know how to use it effectively, and this program aims to train both students and teachers to meet industry standards. He added that the initiative will roll out several learning models built around the National Education Policy (NEP) and State Education Policy (SEP) frameworks.
Alongside the Google partnership, VTU revealed it has also inked similar agreements with Qualcomm, Bharat Skills Institute Foundation, and Simulation Enabled Experiential Learning (SEEL) Company.
