IIT Bombay Batch of 1998 donates a generous sum of Rs 57 crore to their alma mater

The Class of 1998 at IIT Bombay has committed a donation of Rs 57 crore to their alma mater as part of the silver jubilee reunion celebrations. This marks the highest pledge ever made by a silver jubilee batch, according to the institute.

Notable contributors to this generous donation include Apoorv Saxena, Managing Director of private equity firm Silver Lake, and Shailendra Singh, Managing Director of Peak XV. This surpasses the previous record set by the Class of 1971, who pledged Rs 41 crore for their golden jubilee celebrations.

IIT Bombay, in an official post on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), stated, “The funds raised by the Class of 1998 will help the Institute support key academic projects and enhance the research landscape at IIT Bombay.”

The batch, comprising over 200 alumni, emphasized that the contribution was a collective effort, with significant donations from distinguished global executives such as Anupam Banerjee, Managing Director of Vector Capital; Dileep George of AI Research, Google Deepmind; Mohan Lakahmraju, CEO of Great Learning; Manu Varma, Senior Vice President at Colopast; Sundar Iyer, Silicon Valley entrepreneur; Sandeep Joshi, Co-founder and CEO of Indovance; and Srikant Shetty, Chief Growth Officer, Americas, at HCL.
