In a move that could significantly impact Indian and other international students, the Trump administration has revoked Harvard University’s authorization to enroll students under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which would result in Indian Students at Risk as Harvard Faces Visa Program Ban. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decision means that currently enrolled international students must either transfer to a different institution or risk falling out of legal immigration status in the country.
Harvard’s official data shows that between 500 to 800 Indian students and scholars enroll each year. Presently, the university is home to 788 Indian students. In total, around 6,800 international students—primarily graduate students—make up about 27% of Harvard’s student population.
With this development, thousands of Indian Students at Risk as Harvard Faces Visa Program Ban, also have another daunting task of finding alternative institutions if they wish to continue their education and legally remain in the U.S.
