The Supreme Court of India has instructed the Centre to hold a meeting with key stakeholders, including state representatives, to tackle the issue of vacant seats in medical courses. Emphasizing the need to fill all seats, the Apex Court urged the Centre to consider recommendations from a committee established to address the matter.
A two-judge bench, consisting of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan, remarked during the hearing, “Seats also cannot go vacant.”
As reported by PTI, the issue arose when the court was apprised of unfilled super-speciality seats in medical courses. In response, the Centre suggested forming a committee led by the Director General of Health Services, with participation from stakeholders such as state representatives and private medical colleges.
