Highlighting UAH’s strong ties to the U.S. space program, he stated, “The University of Alabama in Huntsville is internationally recognized for its connections to NASA, with faculty and students in Space Science and Physics & Astronomy actively contributing to astronomical missions.” He further emphasized UAH’s cutting-edge research, noting that “The UAH Propulsion Center is one of the few on-campus rocket test facilities in the U.S., where both undergraduate and graduate students engage in rocket and balloon launches.”

Dr. Hakkila also pointed to the university’s Department of Atmospheric & Earth Sciences, which is located next to the National Weather Service and operates the largest and most advanced mobile radar and observing facility in the country. Additionally, UAH benefits from its proximity to Cummings Research Park—the second-largest research park in the U.S.—offering unparalleled opportunities in aeronautics, engineering, biotechnology, computer science, data analytics, space science, physics, and astronomy.
