BNM Institute of Technology – An Extended Community of Learners & Leaders

Since the start of 2020, the whole world has been witnessing a health calamity with uncertain implications. The COVID-19 pandemic along with bringing in immense havoc, also brought along damages in terms of loss of human lives as well as financial and economic shortfalls. As countries across the globe were forced to impose lockdowns, students were the most affected, as their lives took an unalterable turn. With schools/colleges having to shift from in-class action to on-screen modes of learning and demonstrations, this changed scenario, even though widely acknowledged, failed to meet the demands of the new society.

The engineering fellowship too had to adapt to the new changes, but with a twist as engineering requires practical expertise to be imparted on to the students via face to face interactions and learning modules. Also, with the increase in demand for students of today to be very much in sync with the technology trends which are emerging at this key moment in history, the engineers of tomorrow are either responsible for reducing or re-engineering to suit the changed new set-up. Thereby, functioning as a hub which preaches global adaptability and international techno-cultural awareness, among budding engineers, right on its pursuit of creating society-friendly tech-individuals of tomorrow – BNM Institute of Technology, has been relentlessly promoting a complete student-centric atmosphere since its inception.

Led and guided by renowned philanthropists, namely – Shri. N. Raghunath Rao Maanay, the founder and the managing trustee and Prof. Sunanda P. Jadhav, the founder secretary, BNMIT offers the most up to date UG programs across all the major streams of engineering and in AI and Machine Learning, along with hosting MTech and MBA programs. The lush state-of-the-art infrastructure and the campus, located in the IT-hub of India – Bengaluru, facilitates smooth learning curves for all its students, as the campus is a home to highly sophisticated labs, latest equipment, fully furnished conference/seminar halls, and the best ICT-enabled infrastructure, ensuring learning continues irrespective of the medium of teaching used. The BNMIT campus also houses a dedicated Career and Professional Development Cell, aimed towards creating global professionals through structured training programs, enabling 95% of its students to be placed across 150+ companies, with the most competitive packages. In addition, the several centres of excellence (COEs) which exist on the campus, clearly serve the research fanatics among students and teachers. Promoting a clean and effective living among the masses, the homely and well-furnished hostels, available for both boys and girls, with a multicuisine food court, make the BNMIT campus a 2nd home for 1000s of students, who are a part of the journey called BNMIT.

Having been accorded with an Autonomous status by the UGC, provides the engineering institute complete freedom to frame and curate an ‘employment centric’ syllabus as per the needs of the industry. The new status lets BNMIT experiment with modern tools of education technology to achieve higher standards and greater creativity. Also, with the institute following the CBCS grading processes, henceforth, ‘Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA)’ will also be employed on the campus to evaluate student-performance on par with international standards. The CBCS also seamlessly incorporates and encourages an interdisciplinary approach in the choice of subjects, moving one step closer to becoming a completely New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 compliant institute.

Pride in excellence

An epitome of confidence and hard work, BNMIT has pushed itself to outperform on all fronts and as a result is proud to be featured in the ARIAA & the NIRF rankings. Also, a NAAC-accredited institute with an “A” grade, all the onboard programs at BNMIT are NBA accredited. Additionally, all thanks to the well-experienced academicians/industry experts who operate as the respected faculty at BNMIT, the institute has achieved laurels, promoting an all-in-all technology-driven learning system pertaining to the current times. Adapting to perhaps what can be called a true blend of collaborative and flipped classroom learning, BNMIT employs strong Learning Management Systems in the curriculum. Industry experts and the esteemed faculty of BNMIT get together to curate the best in-house curriculum for the students, which carefully consists of all the necessary updates and trends running in the market today. From Project Based Learning Systems, where students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and explore complex questions, problems or challenges to Simulation Based Learning, all these effective endeavors are carried out to reduce the fear of failure in students and thereby enhance their overall personalities.

Aiming towards becoming one of the most premier hubs of engineering & management education in the country, practical based technical knowledge is imparted, along with a high degree of moral and ethical values. Moreover, employing such a curriculum which has around 40% practical components, most of the courses are integrated with labs, where every student on the college campus is motivated to upskill, and take up several skill developments programs. BNMIT has also introduced – Maker Space, where students are permitted to experiment on various innovative/creative skills with hands-on experience. Also known for being a complete hub for holistic learning and growth, BNMIT wholeheartedly encourages 52 technical and hobby clubs, NSS and NCC activities, Nature Club and so on, where students make the most out of these opportunities to nurture themselves into well-learned all rounded engineers.

An abode for young minds, BNMIT boasts of a centralized mentoring cell consisting of senior-faculty, who in turn monitor the progress and relevance of the internships. As internships are mandatory for all the 3rd year students and considering the current times of crisis saw – a 100% online attendance across all the internship programs. Also, having a full-fledged industry interaction cell headed by a senior professor, helps BNMIT build strong industry connections with many of the industry giants, by means of signing MOUs with them, along with 16 patents filed, 6 publications issued and 4 grants received. BNMIT is also a proud recipient of a 3.0 Crore grant by the MHRD, which helped the institute establish an incubation facility to encourage booming startups on the campus.

A journey of students to achievers

Having served the nation for over 20 years now, BNMIT endorses a strong mentor-mentee scheme on the campus. Where for every 20 students a mentor is allocated, and the mentor holds the responsibility of all his/her wards, conducting regular meetings with parents/guardians, keeping a track of their individual progress. Subsequently, a mentor report too is generated, based on their performance as expert gurus. Regular student counselors visit the campus and attend to students via virtual methods, catering to their needs, addressing issues and queries during these times of high uncertainty revolving around the lives of students.

BNMIT has instituted scholarship to the economically weaker but academically stronger students & has Distributed scholarships in the form of concession in the fee – Upto 80 Lakhs”, stated – Sri Narayan Rao Maanay, talking about how at Bhageerathi Bai Narayana  Rao Maanay Educational Institutions, all students irrespective of the socio-economic backgrounds they come from are treated the same, guaranteeing a student-centered haven. Adding to his above statement, he stated – “BNMIT has also scholarship for        Sports  & Cultural achievers of about 12 Lakhs”.

Lastly, having gotten the best technical education and learning, the students pass out from BNMIT with flying colors. Be it getting placed in top-brands or end up giving wings to their very own dreams. Students also savor every facility, initiative or an amenity made available to them, remembering every minute spent at BNMIT. Valuing its alumni and considering them as its brand ambassadors, BNMIT influences the companies which have their alumni working, and makes sure that they get the highest of privileges. Cherishing every memory they spent at BNMIT, and carrying these memories across their lifetimes with smiles on their faces, the ex-students of BNMIT carry the tradition forward, influencing a positive change in and around them, working towards a better country and society, one step at a time.
