Industrial Revolution and its reverberations were felt immensely across the country during the early 1930s; however, the impact of the revolution did not reach South India until the late 1940s. Despite scarce capital and funds, Shri P.A.C Ramaswamy Raja set up the first Spinning Mill at Rajapalayam, which later became the focal point of the Ramco Group. Shri P.A.C. Ramaswamy Raja was the founder of RAMCO Group, a foremost visionary, an eminent industrialist and a valued philanthropist. He will be remembered due to his contributions to the development of society by setting up industries and educational institutions; as a result, he founded P.A.C Ramaswamy Raja Education Charity Trust in 1950 and Raja Charity Trust in 1951.
Many educational institutions function under the umbrella of these trusts including a Polytechnic College, Industrial Training Centre and Social organizations located in and around Rajapalayam. Ramco Institute of Technology is a by-product of Raja Charity Trust’s vision of providing quality-engineering education to the masses.
Ramco Institute of Technology (RIT) was inaugurated in the academic year 2013-14 by the former Chairman Shri P. R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, the institution is AICTE approved and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. A 4-year Engineering program with B.E. Civil Engineering, B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering and B.E. Mechanical Engineering is offered at RIT currently and the institute is looking forward to starting a 2-year PG Engineering and Research programs in the near future. The overall management of the Institution is presently vested with the Governing Council under the able leadership of Shri P.R.Venketrama Raja, Chairman, RAMCO Group of Industries and is fully supported by the Ramco group to create quality engineers for future needs.

Backed by the Ramco group, “RIT ensures that its students get an adequate amount of industrial exposure, enabling them to excel in both academic and future professional life”, stated Dr. L Ganesan ecstatically, the Principal of RIT. The students at RIT are encouraged to take up mandatory internships each year and projects are done in collaboration with the faculty members and industry experts. Any inventions or research papers published by the students or the faculty, the Ramco management encourages them and helps them in the patenting process.
RIT has signed MOUs with reputed industries like Tessolve Semiconductor, TVS Harita, TCSion, Ramco Industries, making the college an in-house training facility for students to learn and train under the experienced hands of industrial experts and students have achieved 100% placement through placement cell in prominent companies. At Ramco Institute of Technology, students are nurtured as responsible citizens with the desire for serving and giving back to society. The students are also encouraged to become entrepreneurs through its entrepreneurship development cell. Several languages are taught like Hindi, French, and German at RIT, the students are trained towards becoming skillful all-round personalities, confident, bright and ethically good at heart.

“Nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats with well-connected road and train transport, RIT is equipped with the world-class state of the art infrastructure”– stated Dr. L. He also added to his statement regarding the campus of RIT, saying – “All the classrooms of RIT are equipped with audio/video equipment, LCD projectors, and smartboards”, making the students enjoy the best in class quality classrooms and best in class quality accommodation in the form of hostels, which provide students with rich, nutritious vegetarian food to the inmates.
All the working days begin with a student presentation on the current developments in Engineering, Science, and Technology. This helps the students to become good presenters and enhances their communication skills.
RIT houses excellent sports facilities on its campus to nurture young sporting talents. The campus houses a large auditorium with well-equipped green rooms with a seating capacity of more than 2000 people. For regular physical and mental health monitoring of students, doctors and psychologists from Ramco Medical Centre visit RIT campus regularly. For preaching conducive learning, all the students at RIT will be monitored and guided by a dedicated and well-trained staff mentor who will always be at the student’s disposal, helping and guiding them towards choosing the right educational and professional path.

Meet the Academic Scholar cum Principal of RIT – Dr. Lakshmanan Ganesan
With a teaching experience of over 30 years and a research experience of 27 years, Dr. L Ganesan is a person of many talents. He has published over 100 research articles in international journals and an equal number of articles in international conferences. He is a Fellow member of Institution of Engineers, Calcutta, Life member in Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi. He has visited top-ranked technical universities in the UK as part of his TEQIP activities during 2009-10. He is presently holding the position of Principal of Ramco Institute of Technology
