Origins to Excellence

Started in 1991, as the Islamic Academy of education, a not-for-profit trust committed to the upliftment of Muslims in particular, was established by entrepreneur Mr. Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi as its Chairman. What started as a humble initiative, today – Yenepoya University currently offers 122 academic programs alongside 48 value-added courses and 16 certificate programs. These credentials are supported by 274 partnerships with domestic and global organizations for research, academics, and community service, serving a student body exceeding 20,000 and a faculty of more than 1,000. So far the university has hosted 30 global specialists from leading bodies to build alliances and share expertise.

Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) sharpened its advanced Outcome-Based Education approach in 2025, harnessing program outcomes, course goals, and assessment data to methodically craft and update curricula. It elevated digital tools and learning management systems as vital engines for teaching supervision, student achievement analysis, and faculty participation, fully aligned with NEP 2020, thus, securing Google Cloud’s Elite Tier Digital Campus 2.0 recognition in the process.

Home to a dedicated faculty team, all of whom are continuously supported by an institutionalized development framework that spans all its units as an ongoing quality drive. In 2024–25, Yenepoya ran numerous Faculty Development Programmes, workshops, seminars, and training events, reaching 80% of educators across health sciences, allied fields, arts, commerce, and management. Faculty engaged deeply in UGC’s Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programmes (MMTTP), targeting NEP 2020 rollout, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), academic leadership, curriculum redesign, and novel teaching methods.

Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) showcased robust research strides in 2024–25. The faculty generated 476 Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed publications, 109 books and chapters, an H-index of 72, 62 external projects worth ₹42.4 crores, 22 fresh patent applications, two grants, and incubator aid for 53 startups.

Students ramped up project roles and presentations under close guidance, while the Yenepoya Research Centre secured Good Laboratory Practices certification plus ISO 17025:2017 accreditation. The university holds Scientific and Industrial Research Organization status from India’s Department of Science & Technology, and its Ethics Committee-1 possess Health Research Department registration, Forum for Ethics Review Committees in Asia-Pacific endorsement (one of seven nationwide), and NABH approval for clinical trial clearances.

This momentum fed directly into entrepreneurship via the Yenepoya Technology Incubator (YTI). Interdisciplinary pushes, elective offerings, and digital pedagogy sparked creativity, embedding problem-solving drills, simulation setups, and e-tools into coursework. These endeavors garnered nine accolades, such as the Best NSS Unit Award, Best State NSS Programme Officer Award, Best Youth Red Cross Unit Award, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy’s Best Dental Institute honor for Yenepoya Dental College.
